If you visit Cataldo today, you will be just about half way across the Idaho panhandle, but in this 1853 map you can see that Washington Territory extended up to the Rocky Mountains in Montana. And so for a time, anyway, Cataldo was in "Frontier Washington."

The map below provides a more detailed picture from the map above showing the approximate location of Cataldo -- in the area called Horse Plain.

do you know what tribe(s) was in the area during the time of the mullen trail was made???
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. I have a great book about the hist of the Pacific NW that has a lot of info on the Washington Territory before it was divided into states. I wasn't sure if I could use it, but now I know it's good!
ReplyDeleteApril, which book is that -- I guess you can tell me today. See you soon.
ReplyDeleteThe Cataldo Mission field trip was great! I can't believe I have lived in this area for 13 years and have never visited until now. I'm going to make a point of finding more such historic places in the region and visit them.
